My camera is a 3+ year old, Canon Powershot G3 and it gets pretty good fps for RAW format images. Then again, it was top of the line when I got it.
Plus, I almost always shoot one photo at a time...

i get about 3 shots before the buffer fills.
i usually skip the raw deal and go jpeg, i get 4 more shots in, and i can skip the editing.
